American tourist rape trial in Geneva

In Geneva, rare CCTV footage was shown in court this week during a rape trial.

The images, recorded at a hotel in February last year, show a man becoming violent with a woman in the lobby before carrying her into a stairwell.

Minutes later, he is seen leaving alone. Judges say redacted footage shows the victim fleeing partially undressed to seek help.

The 30-year-old man is accused of attacking an American woman who was in Geneva for a vacation.

She’s travelled back for the trial.

Prosecutors are seeking a nine-year prison sentence.

A verdict is expected today.
