Amnesty International is strongly criticising the police response to last October’s unauthorized pro-Palestinian demonstration in Bern.
While acknowledging serious violence and property damage by masked rioters, the organization says police tactics were unjustified and excessive,
Leaving peaceful demonstrators and bystanders injured.
Amnesty points in particular to sudden encirclement measures and confusing instructions that prevented people from leaving safely.
Bern cantonal police are defending their actions, but says the operation will be reviewed.
