Anti e-ID referendum looks set to fail

Campaigners against a new electronic ID system are struggling to get enough signatures to force the proposals to a referendum.

The system has been rejected by the people before – in 2021 – but the parliament passed a new e-ID law, addressing many of the initial objections.

It seems the people are generally happy with that.

Those trying to stop the new version had 14 weeks to collect the necessary 50,000 names – but with three weeks left, they’ve only got half.

It seems the new e-ID system look set to be implemented.
