A young apprentice engineer has died while carrying out routine maintenance on a cable car at the Laax ski resort in canton Graubünden.
The 17-year-old was on top of a cable pylon simply greasing the wheels when he was knocked off by a passing gondola. He was declared dead at the scene after falling 40 meters.
The accident happened on Monday afternoon.
If the young man was adequately secured is the main focus of the on-going investigation.
Managers at the lift operating company says they’re deeply shocked by the accident.
Workers are being supported by emotional support teams.
