The US government has confirmed it will spend CHF 36m on renovating the embassy in Bern.
The main work all seems to be related to security. There’ll be better exterior lighting, a new guard post and improved fencing. There will also be a new pavilion.
Press reports suggest some locals are upset at the building work - but Bern says there have been no formal objections.
The Bern cantonal police say they’re currently stretched with guarding the embassies in the city. Tensions are high due to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and unrest in Iran.
Many of the embassies in Bern are in close proximity to each other.
