For several weeks now, police in Switzerland have been facing a surge in luxury vehicle thefts from dealerships across the country, mostly in German-speaking cantons.
But several arrests have recently been made in the Canton of Vaud, including the perpetrators of a vehicle theft in Romanel-sur-Morges, who were intercepted after a chase on the A1 motorway. Another vehicle stolen in Zurich was intercepted at the Cossonay A1 exit after colliding with a truck. No injuries were reported and two perpetrators were arrested. The thieves were French nationals and included minors.
Police say they are using significant resources to stop this spate of luxury vehicle thefts and advising vehicle owners to take extra care of their vehicles in the meantime and equipping their luxury cars with electronic immobilizers and/or GPS trackers.
