An axe head that’s over 5,000 years old has reappeared after being stolen over 40 years ago.
But the Zurich archaeological office didn’t realise it had gone missing – or that it existed.
It reappeared with an anonymous letter saying it was taken from a dig in 1981, on Mozartstrasse.
The letter was also very specific as to exactly where – field 6, layer 4.
The axe had been taken directly from the dig at the time, when it should have been passed to the experts.
It’s dated from the year 3,612 BCE.
