Better news for economy

Switzerland's economy will grow 1.7% this year — nearly double the 0.9% expansion forecast in June, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said yesterday

The upgrade reflects a sharp jump in second-quarter GDP, driven by unusually strong pharmaceutical and chemicals exports.

For 2027, growth is projected at 1.6%, again led by foreign trade.

But the ministry warns rising oil and gas prices from the Iran conflict, along with the prospect of further US tariffs from the Trump administration, could squeeze consumer spending.

Households and Swiss exporters face a mixed picture heading into winter.
