Residents in Brienz who haven’t been able to return home for the past few weeks due to the risk of a massive landslide should be able to head home again soon after nearly 2 million cubic meters of rock crashed down on Thursday night.
The rocks did stop just before the village - so no homes were damaged, but a barn was buried and a road blocked.
Geologists say more analysis needs to be done to determine how much danger remains – but the highest ‘blue alert’ should be lifted.
There is still a danger if some settling of the rubble – but it seems the village is now generally safe.
