The debate over whether 16-year-olds should be allowed to ride 125cc motorcycles is heating up in Switzerland.
Aargau politician Nicole Heggli-Boder, whose daughter narrowly survived a serious accident, is calling for a ban on minors riding such bikes.
She says teenagers lack the maturity and experience to handle motorcycles that can reach speeds of 120 km/h.
Since the minimum age was lowered from 18 to 16 in 2021, the number of serious accidents involving young riders has more than doubled.
Federal authorities acknowledge the problem and are considering raising the age limit again and improving training requirements.
But any concrete changes will take time. A consultation on new rules isn't scheduled until 2027 - leaving parents, instructors, and politicians calling for quicker action.
