A Bern politician is pushing for stricter safety rules for cyclists and motorcyclists.
Daniel Ruch has submitted motions calling for mandatory protective equipment, arguing current requirements are too limited.
Today, cyclists are only required to have lights and reflectors, while helmets are compulsory only for faster e-bikes.
Motorcyclists must wear helmets but face few additional obligations.
Ruch wants that to change. He says cyclists should wear helmets and high-visibility clothing and motorcyclists should have protective clothing. He says accidents can lead to serious injuries, time off work, and added costs for the healthcare system.
The proposals will now be considered by parliament.
