The Geneva plan to bring in a general 30 kph limit on 300 roads could still happen next year.
The canton issued a decree forcing the new limit – claiming the main reason was to cut road noise which is above federal limits in many areas.
But the idea is on hold as the motoring group, the TCS and the Swiss People’s Party - as well as others – have launched a legal appeal. That could take many months – or even more than a year to clarify.
But a group of 23 associations in favour of the new limit have in effect launched an appeal against the appeal.
They say the new limits should come into effect before the courts have reached a final decision.
