The grace period given to car owners in Geneva at the start of the year about their new tax rates is coming to an end.
The bills will now need to be paid.
Many were shocked when new car tax bills arrived as new regulations basing the tax on the CO2 being produced – many owners saw their bills quadruple.
But then canton passed an emergency law to make sure the bulls would not be more than double for the next three years – and allowed an extension to pay until June.
It’s that deadline that’s now approaching – the higher bills will soon need to be paid.
Campaigners took the issue to court, arguing the electorate was not given enough information to decide when it voted in the new rates in 2024. That was rejected by judges.
