Contact tracing had only limited effect

The contact tracing through a mobile phone app during the pandemic had only a limited usefulness.

That’s according to a study by the University and the Hospital in Geneva.

Around 40% of those infected were captured by the system – but during the height of the infection, that number fell to 25%.

Other issues would have decreased its effectiveness – mainly people can be contagious before symptoms appear – so don’t know they’re infected.

But the report also concludes the tracing system would have offered ‘psychological support’ and would have been reassuring during that time.
