Haute-Savoie's chamber of chartered surveyors announced yesterday that Mont Blanc now stands at 4,807.47 metres — up 1.88 metres from the last September reading in 2023
The summit had slipped to 4,805.59 metres three years ago, raising alarm, but wind, snowfall and temperature can swing its height by more than a metre between seasons.
This year's team also measured the ice-cap's thickness and the gravity field at the top, part of a growing effort to track how the Alps' highest peak is shifting in a changing climate.
