New free trade deal

Swiss President Guy Parmelin has signed a free trade agreement with Vietnam in Hanoi, alongside his EFTA counterparts from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein

The deal covers goods and services, intellectual property, public procurement and investment protection.

Swiss machinery, pharmaceuticals and fish exports are expected to benefit most.

Trade between the four EFTA states and Vietnam reached 4.8 billion euros in 2025 and has grown steadily for a decade.

A separate agreement on investment protection is now being negotiated to give Swiss businesses extra legal certainty.
