Geneva is organizing a digital detox day on March 20th to highlight the environmental impact of technology.
Officials say people in Switzerland spend more than five and a half hours online each day, with digital use responsible for about two percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of the initiative, staff and partner organizations are being encouraged to delete unnecessary files and emails and extend the lifespan of their devices.
Maintaining cloud storage of music, pictures and other files takes significant energy.
We’re also being urged to cut down on AI use for the same reason.
