School locker rooms need a design overhaul to take into account new fears of surreptitious photography, heightened self-awareness, gender diversity, as well as physical differences and disabilities.
A joint study by Lausanne, Fribourg and Sankt Gallen Universities, backed up by a survey from the Swiss Association for Physical Education in Schools, clearly shows that current locker room design must be changed.
The researchers say there should be an option for private rooms and showers.
The survey also showed there needs to be some protection for staff.
Entrances to the changing rooms should either be by a type of airlock or with a sharp turn that allows audio comminution with students without physical access.
