The Dengue virus has been detected for the first time in Switzerland, in mosquitoes found in Basel.
The discovery was made in samples collected in autumn 2024, marking the first time the virus has been identified north of the Alps.
Experts say the virus was likely imported by a traveller before being picked up by local mosquitoes.
But, specialists stress there is no evidence of transmission to humans, and say the risk to the public remains low at this stage.
