Ski resorts popular this summer

Many of us are choosing to have our sumer vacations in ski resorts - as they’re cooler.

Alpine resorts more accustomed to winter crowds report double-digit summer gains: Flumserberg is up 15%, Lenzerheide 25% and the Bernese Oberland up 30% on last summer. 

Tourism officials say bookings are also unusually last-minute, driven directly by the weather. 

In St. Moritz in canton Graubunden, at nearly 2,000 metres, temperatures are running between 12°C and 24°C — while cantonal capital Chur, just below 600 metres, sits between 23°C and 35°C. 

Alpine air is generally 10 to 20 degrees cooler than the plains.
