Police and the motoring organisation the TCS are united when they described a driver’s actions on the A1 as shocking.
Yesterday morning a major tailback formed on the autoroute near Wil in Sankt Gallen after an accident which involved several vehicles.
But the delay was clearly too much for one. They drove against the flow of traffic, using the emergency lane that had been left by vehicles for use by emergency crews, in an effort to escape the jam.
A spokeswoman for the TCS says such behaviour is inexcusable.
Police used camera footage and has tracked down the driver. They say the case is now with the public prosecutor.
