Egg consumption in Switzerland reached an all-time high last year, according to figures released by the Federal Office for Agriculture.
In total, nearly 1.8 billion eggs were sold in Switzerland in 2024 - a 5.7% increase compared to the previous year. That’s even higher than during the peak demand seen in the coronavirus pandemic, the Agriculture Office said on Tuesday.
The rise is driven by both population growth and an increase in per capita consumption. On average, each person in Switzerland ate nearly 198 eggs last year.
Despite ongoing supply challenges, authorities say there should be enough eggs for Easter - though shoppers may notice a more limited selection.
