The euro is continuing to weaken against the franc and could soon be worth the same.
That’s the prediction of the economist Jan-Egbert Sturm from ETH University in Zurich.
He says the main reason is inflation. The rate in the eurozone is currently running at 5%. Sturm says he expects the inflation differential to continue and the euro will remain weak.
The euro is currently worth about 1.04 francs. When the single currency was launched, it was worth 1.50.
The strong franc is a problem for Swiss exporters as it makes their products more expensive.
