Swiss Federal Railways is raising civil liberty concerns after it announced it plans to use facial recognition technology to map how people behave while on their property.
The company says all information will be anonymous and will only be used to improve customer service and increase safety.
The details have been released by the magazine K-Tipp.
The systems will log the height, age and gender. It would monitor how long people spend in shops and how much money is spent.
The plan is to install the system in 50 stations – the first in Schaffhausen by the end of the year.
Swiss Federal Railways says data protection will be guaranteed.
