The Geneva luxury Fairmont Hotel on the Quai Wilson will close its doors for renovation next month. The work could last for up to three years.
The closure will also include the Théâtre du Léman and the spa, all in the same complex.
It does mean 266 people will lose their jobs, but a union pleasing package is being offered which includes a pay off ranging from 3 months’ pay to 17 months – based on seniority.
When completed the building will be more energy efficient and will create 400 jobs.
The one unanswered question – will additional theatre space be created to make up for the closure of the Léman?
