There are worries the new US administration will hike the cost of 36 F-35 fighters that Switzerland has on order.
The main issue is inflation which is pushing up costs - but Switzerland previously signed a fixed price deal for the aircraft directly with the US government – so it bears any price rise risk.
That’s the theory – but many, including the former French Foreign Minister, Dominique de Villepin, is warning in a magazine article that Trump and his cabinet are ignoring the law and it they wanted to push the prices up, nothing could stop them.
The manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, is warning of inflation price rises and the US Airforce predicts it will be paying 20% more for its aircraft.
