Geneva is launching a major attack on the tiger mosquito.
The insect is an invasive species and has the potential to spread tropical diseases – and it’s spreading in Geneva, covering around six times the territory than it did two years ago.
The cantonal Agriculture Office says it expects most of the canton to be affected by next year.
But there are hopes that can be limited. A quarter of a tonne of antilarval pellets have been distributed to the communes.
The work to spread the pellets is being described as colossal. Around 10,000 suspected breeding sites have to be treated.
