Bus drivers in the neighbouring French town of Annemasse are striking today – demanding a pay rise. Next week could see other drivers in nearby towns join the action.
The drivers complain they’re paid only 9% above minimum wage. On average they earn EUR 2,059 a month. They want a rise to EUR 2,500.
A union spokesman says around half the drivers are refusing to work.
The action seems likely to spread to Thonon and Saint-Julien next week. Some of those buses serve stops in canton Geneva.
