Gap grows between the wealthy and middle class

The gap between Switzerland's wealthy and its middle class widened again last year, according to UBS's annual global wealth report.

The country holds onto the title of world's richest per capita, with average wealth of around USD 900,000 per adult.

But the median — the wealth of the typical Swiss resident — reveals sharp inequalities.

Globally, UBS counted about a million new millionaires last year, or more than 2,600 a day, driven by rising financial markets.

Switzerland is also among the most indebted of the rich economies, a reminder that the top-line prosperity figure does not tell the whole story.
