Geneva airport cuts losses

Geneva airport managed to cut its losses last year thanks to aggressive cost savings and an uptick in passenger numbers in the second half of 2021.

Last year the airport lost CHF 89m – but in 2020, that number was CHF 130m. 

The airport is postponing several new projects and has cut 14% of its workforce.

But in the second half of last year, passenger numbers started to grow again, says the airport, especially for European travel.

Long hauls flights are also beginning to return - but the number of destinations served is down from pre-pandemic levels. In 2019 you could fly to 147 different cities – at the end of last year that was down 10.
