Geneva police shoot dead knifeman

Geneva police shot dead a man in the Paquis district yesterday afternoon.

Prosecutors say he was armed with a large knife and had been ordered to drop it several times.

The man, in his thirties, had jumped on top of a municipal police car and then lunged at the officers, according to prosecutors. That was when the police opened fire.

In all, four shots were fired. The man died at the scene.

No further details are available at the moment. The shooting will be investigated.
