The Geneva Red Cross says demand for its traditional Christmas baskets is higher this year than ever.
The local Red Cross has been distributing the baskets for more than 50 years. The packages contain small gifts for children, food and sweets as well as toiletries.
Around 8,000 people will get a package – half of those will be under 18. But the Red Cross says it’s very concerned about the number of families that are now eligible.
The number has almost tripled since 2019 - now more than 2,500 families will be getting a package.
The Red Cross says it shows how precarious the situation is for many. They haven’t been able to overcome the problems caused by the pandemic and now the cost of living is making life even harder.
