Geneva strike and march this afternoon

Major disruptions are expected in Geneva this afternoon as state and subsidized sector employees go on strike.

The walkout, called by the Inter-Union Alliance, protests the government’s austerity plan and a record budget deficit of up to CHF 740m.

There’ll be a march through the city centre starting at 4 this afternoon.

Roads around the Hospital, the Old Town, and Rive will be closed or heavily congested.

Public transport operator TPG warns of detours on a dozen lines and cancellations on line 92.

Schools and hospitals will maintain minimum services to ensure continuity for students and patients.
