The City of Geneva wants to limit the amount of private lighting at night – in an effort to save electricity and help wildlife.
It's long been a habit in Geneva for shops to keep their windows illuminated all the time.
The city is urging businesses to switch off lights in unoccupied buildings between 11pm and 6am.
It’s also asking the same for common areas of apartment buildings.
The campaign is part of a long-term strategy to cut light pollution in the city and to save energy.
