A hiker had to be airlifted to hospital after being attacked and trampled on by cows while hiking in canton Vaud.
The woman was with a group of friends, including children, when the herd turned on them in Leysin while they were crossing a field – the route is part of a recognised trail.
Vaud police say the woman was first shoved by the cows before being trampled.
They say a local saw the incident and tried to chase away the herd with his vehicle.
Walkers are warned by signs that cows will try to protect their young.
A local official says cow attacks are rare – there’s been three in the past ten years.
