Huge restructure for Migros

Migros is preparing the biggest restructuring in its history, with up to 3,000 administrative jobs reported to be on the line

The retail giant will tomorrow unveil plans to merge its ten regionally independent cooperatives into a single national one, with supermarket operations grouped into six regions.

The move is expected to save between CHF 300 million and CHF 400 million a year — the sum former executives estimate the current structure costs annually.

Members of each regional cooperative will have to approve the overhaul by a two-thirds majority.

Store staff and shoppers should see little change, with Migros planning to open more supermarkets and modernise existing ones.
