A Vaudois hiker thought he wouldn’t make it out alive after being trampled by a herd of cows last Friday.
He was walking with his dog in canton Jura, close to the French border, when the cows suddenly charged. The man suffered serious injuries: a fractured leg, broken ribs, a concussion, and heavy bruising.
It’s thought his dog may have startled the herd, which first chased the animal, then turned on its owner.
A couple nearby heard his cries and called emergency services.
Local officials remind hikers to keep their dogs on a lead, stay calm near herds, and take detours if calves are present.
