Rail traffic between Geneva and Lausanne was severely disrupted yesterday by a total breakdown at Renens station in Vaud.
Drilling work severed the cables supplying the entire rail guidance system at the station's western exit, making any transit for trains impossible.
Some 100,000 passengers were affected during the day.
The cable has now been repaired and trains are once again able to circulate normally between the two cities.
The episode is a reminder of the fragility of the train connection along lake Geneva.
Yesterday marked the 2nd anniversary of the hole in the train tracks in Tolochenaz (Vaud) that interrupted train traffic between Geneva and Lausanne for several days in November 2021.
