Switzerland did experience a mini baby boom in early 2021 with births hitting a level not seen since 1972.
Researchers at the University of Zurich have been examining the impact of lockdowns on the birth rate.
They say there was a surge of conceptions during the lockdown in the spring of 2020 – leading to a 13% increase in births compared to expected figures.
Most new mothers were women in their thirties, especially those who already had a child.
To highlight the lockdown effect, births fell back to normal in 2022.
Compared to neighbouring countries, only France showed a similar effect.
