A major fire broke out in the industrial zone of Meyrin-Satigny on Sunday, billowing thick black smoke which was visible right across the canton and in neighbouring France.
The first signs of the fire at the Grimper climbing centre were spotted by passing horse-riders who called the fire brigade. Those inside were unaware there was a problem until the fire service called them.
There were ten people in the building, all left safely.
The particularly thick smoke was caused by the burning of the safety mattresses at the climbing hall, says the fire brigade.
It took a hundred firefighters and 33 engines to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters and trucks from the airport supported the operation.
The fire also damaged several cars parked in the nearby multi-storey car park.
The building is less than two years old.
