Two 23-year-olds who became multimillionaires selling masks at the start of the pandemic are now being accused of selling counterfeit and useless products.
The men, identified only by their first names, Luca and Jascha, boasted of buying supercars with the money they made through their company Emix based in canton Zug.
The investigative TV programme, Rundschau, alleges the conformity certificates for many of the masks were forged. Testing showed one type to be only 5% effective.
In one order, they sold 40,000 masks to the Glarus cantonal hospital. They were later found to be ineffective.
Investigations are now underway with the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs.
The company has issued a statement that’s it’s an ‘unbearable thought’ the masks wouldn’t have protected health workers.
