The supermarkets are in a price war over the cost of meat.
The discounter Aldi fired the first shot after it cut the cost of meat, Denner, Lidl and Migros have now followed – and Coop has just announced price cuts.
Coop was forced to join the battle as it has a price guarantee.
Average savings are as much as 25% for pork and minced beef and 6% for chicken.
The war is a surprise to suppliers. The Swiss Meat Trade Association says there’s no reason for the cuts and environmentalists say the move goes against the government’s climate goals.
