A major NATO military exercise next month could cause air traffic problems – especially around Zurich airport.
The manoeuvres are being called ‘Air Defender’ and will involve 220 aircraft from 18 countries. One of the major bases to be used will be in Lechfeld in southern Germany, only around 150 km from the Swiss border.
The zone of operations will impact airspace used as approach and holding patterns for Zurich.
The air traffic company, Skyguide, says cancellation and delays can’t be ruled out – especially if there’s bad weather.
The exercise is being held between 12th and 23rd of June.
