The Swiss food giant Nestlé has been forced to destroy several batches of its mineral water brand, Perrier, due to a bacterial contamination.
Groundwater used in the production was found to contain bacteria that could have a ‘fecal origin’ at one of the boreholes in France.
The local prefecture has suspended water extraction.
The company says all the bottles on the shelves are safe to drink. The suspected batches – which amount to several hundred pallets – have been destroyed.
The contamination is thought to be linked to very heavy rains in the Garde area as part of storm Monica in March.
