A new lake side beach has been opened near the World Trade Centre. It was a section of the lake side that was previously inaccessible.
It’s 130 meters long and is within the William Rappard Park. The beach will close in the evenings at the same time the park does.
The State Councilor, Antonio Hodgers says the new beach is part of larger plan to provide more public spaces.
He says the right bank of the lake is particularly underserved for public areas.
The new beach cost CHF 380,000 to protect it from the currents and heavy rain. It’s also been cleared of alien plant species to allow local vegetation to flourish.
