There could soon be a new vaccine available in Switzerland – which works on a more traditional method and it’s hoped it may sway some of those hesitant to take the currently available mRNA vaccines.
The EU has authorized Nuvaxovid and it's expected Switzerland will follow.
The vaccine is a so called ‘dead vaccine’. It uses parts of the original virus which have been deactivated.
But the trials have been done on the early Alpha variant and the manufacturer says it needs to be modified for Omicron. But that should be available next month.
Switzerland has pre-ordered a million doses with an option for 5 million more. It should be available in February.
