There are no plans to reintroduce border controls on the Swiss Italian border.
That was made clear by the federal councillor, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, who’s at an EU meeting of interior ministers in Brussels.
The government has dispatched more border guards to the southern border to deal with an expected larger flow of migrants arriving from Italy.
Germany has brought back controls on its borders with Poland and the Czech Republic, but Baume-Schneider says there is no indication that they will do the same on the Swiss border.
The migrant issue is being discussed by the ministers at the meeting – the EU says it would like to have a comprehensive plan in place before European elections in June.
