Parliament releases CHF 5m for Blatten

Both houses of parliament have unanimously passed an emergency bill, giving CHF 5m to the destroyed village of Blatten.

The money is expected just to be the first tranche of aid, but this sum comes without any conditions. Some MPs did worry about setting a precedent, but others said it was important to show support for the people of Blatten.

There was one heated argument when Swiss People’s Party member, Micheal Götte, complained that the amount was equivalent to 0.14% of what Switzerland pays in foreign aid.

But Green Party member, Emmanuel Amoos, berated him for trying to make political capital out of the disaster.
