A new study is confirming what many residents in the Pays de Gex will already know – cross border commuter transport is very poor.
That’s the conclusion by the French Court of Auditors.
The report says the region lacks the capacity to handle the flow of cars from the region into canton Geneva.
It says 85% of cross border workers use a private vehicle to get to work.
The report concludes time has already run out to bring in new infrastructure to counter the need to use cars and points out the area is growing so rapidly, 15 new cars are put in the roads in the Pays de Gex every day.
Sébastien Munafo, from the 6t Research Office, points out buses are not very attractive as they take longer than a car.
He says the only long-term option is rail and recommends extending the Léman Express service into the region.
