In Geneva, public sector workers marched again yesterday, protesting the 2026 budget and the planned cuts of nearly 300 jobs considered vital to public services.
The demonstration drew about 4,000 participants, from teachers to social workers, many highlighting rising workloads and a lack of recognition.
Many of those on the march told the press they feel undervalued and point out demand for public services is heavier than ever - which was confirmed this week by official figures that show more people in Geneva are claiming welfare benefits.
The march ended as the Grand Council rejected the government’s budget, meaning the canton will begin next year under provisional funding.
